First ‘Mockingjay — Part 1’ Trailer Has Lots of Action

The first trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 has just been released (those other clips were just propaganda shorts for the Capitol) and packs plenty of punch. (Even Gale gets to do something!)

It will interesting to see if Part 1 or Part 2 contains more padding and movie-only material, seeing as the novel was so… elliptical about the war.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 opens Nov. 21.

Finally, here’s the teaser everyone has been waiting for:  The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1  poster that finally shows Katniss head-on, facing the enemy! As menacing as her back was, this is much better!

Katniss’ Back — Literally — on ‘Mockingjay’ Poster

katnissbackThe latest promotional poster for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 is a (genuine) tease: It only depicts the back of franchise heroine Katniss Everdeen!

Yes, Jennifer Lawrence is facing away from the camera. Her character is only identifiable by her trademark bow & arrows and braided hair (which is now pitch black, like her leather warrior ensemble).

The Mockingjay Lives — ‘Unity’ Video Clip

A second promotional video was released today to tease The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and, like the first, it features a speech from President Snow (Donald Sutherland) — but this one does not go according to the script:

That’s Beetee (Jeffrey Wright) hijacking the president’s feed from the presumed-lifeless District 13 to trumpet the news that the Mockingjay still lives.

First Teaser for ‘Mockingjay — Part 1’

What we have here is not a clip of action scenes from the forthcoming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1, but rather a sort of… PSA from President Snow simultaneously praising and threatening the citizens of Panem. Y’know, in that way he does.

The casting of Donald Sutherland as the Big Bad in this series was absolutely brilliant, because his voice is so amazing: It’s soothing yet unsettling. He’s a very stern father figure. And his casting carries real-world baggage: We are used to hearing his voice as a pitchman selling us products. Here, he’s selling the myth of Panem as a utopia.

Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) looks on with a strangely tranquil face. Is he drugged? What’s wrong with him? Why is Katniss’ closest ally rallying behind the president? (Readers of the book know what the deal is.)

And how about that antiseptic white production design? How sterile and inhuman can you get? I think it’s much more sinister than all-black.

Natalie Dormer Takes It (Half) Off for Mockingjay

British actress Natalie Dormer showed up at Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards with half her head shaved for her role as Cressida in this fall’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and next year’s Mockingjay — Part 2.

As a fellow head-shaving enthusiast, I think the absolutely gorgeous Dormer looks even sexier with this shorn style!

“The hair department was very supportive,” Dormer said on the SAG red carpet. “I was ready to do the whole head but we decided it was more stylistic — more Capitol — just to do half the head.”
