‘Captain America 3’: Winter Is Coming (Back)

buckybackIt’s not exactly the revelation of a state secret, but Anthony and Joe Russo, the co-directors of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, have confirmed that a major character from that movie (still the top-grosser of 2014!) will return for Captain America 3 : none other than Bucky Barnes, the Winter Soldier himself.

This is hardly a surprise, given that both Cap (Chris Evans) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) survived the last film with no resolution of their conflict and Cap vowing to track him down. Also, Stan previously revealed that he signed a nine-picture deal with Marvel Studios, and he still has seven films to go, so the Winter Soldier has to show up someplace….

Winter Soldier Sebastian Stan Will Be Back!

sebastiansYou can rest assured that whatever happens in Captain America: The Winter Soldier when it opens tomorrow, Sebastian Stan will be back — because he says he signed a nine-picture deal with Marvel Studios!

Winter Soldier is his second outing (following Captain America: The First Avenger), leaving seven more contracted appearances. Of course, not all of them have to be as the Winter Soldier — although Marvel does need more good baddies. One idea has Stan moving up to take over the Captain America identity whenever current star Chris Evans inevitably leaves — either from fulfilling his contract or aging out of the role. In the comics, Bucky did indeed take over for his mentor at one point, so it’s not an outrageous possibility.

But if you end up hating the Winter Soldier actor… well, these could be seven long movies…

More ‘Winter Soldier’ Goodies: TV Spot & Posters!

capwinterposwintersoldWe’re less than a month away from the April 4 opening day for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and anticipation is building.

Marvel Studios has released a poster of The Winter Soldier and a new one of Cap that looks a lot more like a comic book cover than the previous images — well, except for Chris Evans not wearing his Cap mask! In his own comic book and in Avengers, Captain America never goes into battle without his mask, But it’s always different in the movies: The studios all want to see the face of the actor they hired to wear the costume.

Take a look at this great new trailer (the third) that features more new footage — including the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) in battle, Cap vs. the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and more on that amazing helicarrier crash!

Captain America Sequel: A Crowded House

capwidowfuryIs it just me, or does anyone else think the Captain America sequel is getting more than a bit crowded? The latest synopsis of Captain America: The Winter Soldier teases a big role for Black Widow, and combining that with lots of Nick Fury and introducing the Falcon and new baddie the Winter Soldier — so where does Cap himself fit in?

Samuel L. Jackson recently had this to say about his character, Nick Fury:

“You see Nick Fury the office guy, him going about the day-to-day work of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the politics as opposed to that other stuff. It’s great to have him dealing with Captain America in terms of being able to speak to him soldier to soldier and try to explain to him how the world has changed in another way while he was frozen in time. Some of the people who used to be our enemies are now our allies — him trying to figure out, “Well, how do we trust those guys?” or “How do we trust the guys that you didn’t trust who don’t trust you? And explaining to him that the black and white of good guys/bad guys has now turned into this gray area. Nick lies to him all the time, too. But he’s trying to help him navigate the waters of the new sharks that he doesn’t know anything about.”

Of course, all this mental stuff could be going on inside Fury’s head and all we’ll see onscreen is one interaction with Cap. But then again, probably not.
