‘Winter Soldier’ Clip: Mr. Fury & Mr. Pierce

In this clip from Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Nick Fury goes to Alexander Pierce to ask for a favor, giving Samuel L. Jackson a chance to work with Hollywood legend Robert Redford. Check it out…

Y’know speaking of Redford and that “Hollywood legend” stuff, the Law of Conservation of Casting would seem to indicate that a production would not hire an actor of Redford’s stature/salary for a throwaway role — which fuels the speculation that Alexander Pierce is not exactly who he says he is. But if that’s the case, who is he?

There has been rampant speculation that Pierce is the Red Skull in disguise, and while that certainly sounds cool, I kind of doubt that Redford was brought on board just to replace Hugo Weaving. And does Redford really want to take over a role created by someone else? We know he’s not Baron Strucker. He’s not Batroc. Could Redford be Zemo? Maybe he’s playing the son of Red Skull, who takes on his late father’s mask and mission?

Of course,  Alexander could be Cap and Peggy’s lovechild from the 1940s, left fatherless by Steve Rogers’ plunge into the icy North Atlantic…

This Winter Weather Makes Me Think… ‘Winter Soldier’

With all this blasted snow around these parts (the Northeast USA), I prefer to think about warmer weather — like, say, April 4, which just happens to be the day Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens.

Like the last batch, these images do a good job of making this sequel look like action-packed fun. In fact, all of the promotional material — the teaser poster and the first trailer — has been hugely effective, in my book.

Good to see the Falcon finally getting some love — and even Frank Grillo’s Crossbones. (Anyone else remember Grillo from THE SHIELD or, better yet, GUIDING LIGHT?) Robert Redford is at the center of swirling Oscar rumors for his role in All Is Lost, so he’s getting more attention in the promotional materials for Winter Soldier. This is the first good look I’ve seen of this movie’s version of Cap’s (Chris Evans) uniform. And who ever needs an excuse to run a photo of Scarlett Johansson?

New ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Photos

A few more images from Captain America: The Winter Soldier have been released to either help tide us over until April 4, or to make the torture of the wait that much more exquisite…

Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo and Robert Redford.

First Trailer From ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Following the release earlier this week of the most majestic (and ass-kicking) teaser poster of 2013, we at last get a glimpse into the sequel to 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger in spring’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I really like this clip because it seems to give a taste of what the movie will be like overall: Some character banter, some politics and a whole lot of jaw-dropping action. What I’m excited about is the film seems to treat Cap (Chris Evans) with the reverence he deserves.

It looks like the Black Widow will have a more significant role than originally rumored — but who’s going to complain about more Scarlett Johansson? We also got a glimpse of Anthony Mackie as both Sam Wilson and the Falcon in action! Of course Sam Jackson is Sam Jackson, but Robert Redford appears to fit right in as Alexander Pierce, the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I get more and more psyched for this movie the closer we get to April 2014.
