What Was Wrong With Pitch Black?

Vin Diesel‘s latest action epic, Riddick, opens today, but before you catch up with the latest adventures of Dick Riddick — you do remember that his name is Richard J. Riddick, right? — check out this very funny list of flubs from the first flick in the series, the trailblazing Pitch Black. The new movie looks like a real callback to the original, but let’s hope the script is a little tighter this time.

I’m sure a similar video for Riddick will be out in a month or two…

New Movie Posters That Caught My Eye

I cannot vouch for the quality of the films, but these recently released posters either grabbed my attention (Filth) or promote movies that I’m looking forward to seeing (Thor: The Dark World).

The two new entries on the Thor sweepstakes cannot top the previously released image. Sorry.

Riddick Clip Looks Bloody Amazing

I don’t know how this slipped by me, but there’s a red-band trailer for Riddick out there, and I’ve only just seen it. And by “seen it” I mean “been blown away” by it. There’s a lot of violence and a lot of blood in this clip, so that’s why it’s restricted and you have to sign in to see it at YouTube. But that’s also what makes it so bleeding cool.

Riddick should make September a little easier to bear.

Riddick Stars in Motion Comic Prequel

When last we saw Vin Diesel‘s Riddick, at the conclusion of 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick, he had just become Lord Marshall of the Necromongers — and no one imagined that his reign would be simple. Now, in a motion comic bridges the gap between the last movie and Sept. 6’s Riddick, setting the stage for the sequel that returns the character to the animalistic roots seen in 2000’s Pitch Black.

This video — featuring Diesel himself voicing Riddick — gives us a taste of the convict’s life at the top; and let’s just say that uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.

I think this looks pretty awesome, and I’m really looking forward to Riddick‘s release.

A Look at Some New Movie Posters

With the San Diego Comic-Con just about to get under way, geeks of all stripes are bracing for a torrent of information, teases and images on hundreds of projects, so I wanted to get some pre-con releases squared away before San Diego buries us in an avalanche of new material.

Here is a look at a few new posters that caught my eye. There’s more stuff out there, but it didn’t interest me (I’m looking at you, poster for Tom Cruise’s Edge of Tomorrow or 300: Rise of an Empire or I, Frankenstein).

New Riddick Trailer: More Action — and French Subtitles!

This international trailer for Riddick doubles-down on the action with lots of new footage and a better looks at some of the new monsters. This clip also makes the movie look like Pitch Black 2 — which would not be a bad thing in my book at all…

Riddick, starring Vin Diesel, opens Sept. 6 (in the USA).

Riddick’s Trailer is Ridiculously Entertaining

“You’re not afraid of the dark, are you?”

Bringing back that classic line from Pitch Black is an indicator of where creator/director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel are going with Riddick, the third film in the deep-space franchise.

As this ass-kicking debut trailer suggests, Riddick is going back to basics: battling bounty hunters, mercs — and especially monsters that go bump in the dark. We’re back to goggles and the shine job that lets Riddick see in the dark. An all of it with a hard R rating.

Star Trek’s Karl Urban reprises his role as Vaako, while BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s Katee Sackhoff heads the new cast, which includes Jordi Mollà and former wrestler Dave Bautista.

I can barely wait until Sept. 8, when Riddick is slated to hit theaters.

Here’s what the studio wants you to know about the flick:

Riddick, the latest chapter of the groundbreaking saga that began with 2000’s hit sci-fi film Pitch Black and 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick reunites writer/director David Twohy (A Perfect Getaway, The Fugitive) and star Vin Diesel (the Fast and Furious franchise, xXx).  Diesel reprises his role as the antihero Riddick, a dangerous, escaped convict wanted by every bounty hunter in the known galaxy.

The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless.  Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered.  The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal.  With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.”

Finally! First Footage from Riddick!

Every time that I’m reminded of the forthcoming Pitch Black sequel, Riddick, I get excited about it — but the production is so tightly under wraps that leaks have been few and far between, meaning the movie is mostly out of sight and out of mind.

But that should be changing — starting now, with the very first teaser trailer for Riddick, which catches up with the title character sometime after 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick. The best part is that writer/director David Twohy is back, and both he and star Vin Diesel want to take the movie back to its Pitch Black roots.
