Natalie Dormer Takes It (Half) Off for Mockingjay

British actress Natalie Dormer showed up at Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards with half her head shaved for her role as Cressida in this fall’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and next year’s Mockingjay — Part 2.

As a fellow head-shaving enthusiast, I think the absolutely gorgeous Dormer looks even sexier with this shorn style!

“The hair department was very supportive,” Dormer said on the SAG red carpet. “I was ready to do the whole head but we decided it was more stylistic — more Capitol — just to do half the head.”

Mockingjay Gets Chopped in Two

What we have all feared has come to pass: In a shameless, cynical money-grab, Lionsgate has announced that Mockingjay, the third novel in Suzanne Collins’ acclaimed YA trilogy, will be split into two movies, with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One slated for release on Nov. 21, 2014, and Part Two penciled in for Nov. 20, 2015.

After all, the Harry Potter series and Twilight both split their final books, so in the monkey-see, monkey-do world of Hollywood, The Hunger Games has to do it, too. If nothing else, the producers probably feel they’ll get a good opening-weekend gross from Part Two.

Book Review: Mockingjay

Warning: This review will not spoil Mockingjay, but you should read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire before looking at this…

After two sojourns into the arena of the Hunger Games, there was no way Katniss could back in for a third go-round. Especially since the flashes Katniss mistook for fireworks at the end of the last contest were actually bombs exploding, marking the attack of the rebels. So where can Katniss go now?

Home. Although there is little point, because President Snow ordered District 12 firebombed as soon as the rebels rescued Katniss, Finnick and Beetee from the clock arena. In the time it took Katniss to recover from her critical wounds, she realized that she was taken to District 13, which was not completely destroyed as the Capitol claimed. The surviving population moved underground and organized a rebel force to overthrow the hated Capitol.
