First Look at Netflix’s Next Marvel Series: IRON FIST

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for IRON FIST, the next installment in its series showcasing Marvel Comics’ “street level” superheroes. GAME OF THRONES’ Finn Jones stars as Danny Rand, scion of a wealthy industrial family and a man presumed dead in a plane crash 15 years ago, who returns wielding the incredible martial arts ability known as the Iron First.

In the comics, this ability is usually described as “He summons his chi — the essence of his spirit and strength —  channeling its raw power down into his arm, into his hand, until that hand becomes like unto a thing of iron!

Take a look at the terrific way the Iron Fist is being visualized for the series in the clip below…

IRON FIST also stars David Wenham as Harold Meachum, the former business partner of Danny’s late parents; Jessica Stroup and Tom Pelphrey as Harold’s children, Joy and Ward Meachum, who have known Danny since childhood; and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, an ally of Danny’s who runs a martial arts dojo.

IRON FIST premieres March 17, 2017, on Netflix.

It’s Here! The Official, Full ‘Jessica Jones’ Trailer!

At long (long) last, after a series of short, frustrating teaser clips, the official FULL trailer for Jessica Jones has been released! Don’t waste time reading this — watch the trailer!

Looks pretty damn awesome, doesn’t it?

All 13 episodes of Jessica Jones — a co-production between Netflix and Marvel Television —  will be released simultaneously through Netflix on Nov. 20.

New ‘Power Man and Iron Fist’ Title Planned for 2016

PMIF01In the best comic book news today, Marvel announced a revival of the iconic 1970s series Power Man and Iron Fist written by David Walker and drawn by Sanford Greene.

Known as the original “Heroes for Hire,” the teaming of Luke Cage and Danny Rand came about in 1977, because Marvel wanted to keep both heroes going monthly. Luke Cage’s run in his own solo series began with Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1 in 1972 (the title changed to Power Man with issue #17). Iron Fist — whose solo series (Iron Fist) had come to an end — started appearing in Power Man and then was elevated to co-star status when what would have been Power Man #50 was renamed Power Man and Iron Fist. The series ran until #125.

I remember the book as a great buddy series, with Luke and Danny becoming the best of friends. Their supporting cast included Danny’s girlfriend Misty Knight and her roomie Colleen Wing.

Of course Luke is a big cheese in the Marvel universe now, what with being an Avenger and husband to Jessica Jones. Luke will even go live-action when he appears in the upcoming Netflix series JESSICA JONES, in which he will be played by Mike Colter. Word is Iron Fist will also appear, but has not been cast yet.

No official release date has been announced, but the title is expected to bow in early 2016.

Jon Favreau on ‘Ant-Man’ and Edgar Wright

FavreauDirector/producer Jon Favreau is quite familiar with Marvel Studios — he directed Iron Man and has produced other hits for Marvel, including The Avengers — and with fellow director Edgar Wright, who last month walked away from the Ant-Man movie he had been nurturing since 2006.

In an interview published on ShortList.com, Favreau said this about Wright and Ant-Man:

Edgar’s a dear friend of mine – I was so looking forward to his version of Ant-Man. All Edgar’s films have been studio films; it’s not like he’s never made one before. I think he’s been used to a situation where he can have tremendous creative say around his story and casting, and Marvel has built an entire franchise around their style of telling stories. I know both parties well, and I respect his decision to see that he wasn’t going to be fulfilled in the process. That’s all I can really say.

Kick-Ass 3 Will Occupy Us Until Kick-Ass 2

kickass3I am really looking forward to the release of the Kick-Ass 2 movie on Aug. 16, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloë Grace Moretz, but until then the story of Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl continues on the comic page with today’s release of Kick-Ass 3 from co-creators Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.

There will be six interlocking covers on the first issue that combine to form a team image of Justice Forever with a message spelled out along the bottom of each issue.
