The Doctor’s Flash Cards

One of my favorite gags on DOCTOR WHO this season came in “Under the Lake,” in which we learned that Clara (Jenna Coleman) has given the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) flash cards with sensible phrases on them to remind him how to speak to “regular” folk who are frightened/confused by whatever horrible situation they find themselves in.

I thought it was hilarious the way he begrudgingly used them to address the base crew. He was like a grumpy husband forced to go apple-picking instead of being allowed to stay home and watch the game.

Among the funniest phrases: “It was my fault, I should have known you didn’t live in Aberdeen.” Clara clearly slipped that one in for herself, after he left her there on a coffee run last season.

Doc Brown Explains the Lack of Flying Cars in 2015

Roads? Where we’re going, we STILL need roads!

Damn it.

Yes, it’s 2015 and there are STILL no flying cars — although we are making progress on driverless cars — or hoverboards — but a couple of prototypes are in the pipeline — and I’m beginning to despair of ever seeing flying cars in my lifetime. Still, it’s not all bad.

Today is Oct. 21, 2015, the date Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) and Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) visited in 1989’s Back to the Future Part II — which makes the dearth of flying cars all the more tragic.

However, in a bid to take some of the sting out of our lack of progress, Doc Brown himself has returned with a message about disappointing futures:

And Now… the Honest Trailer for ‘Avengers: Age of Utron’

Once again, those clever folks over at Screen Junkies have come up with a funny piece — however, similar to Mad Max: Fury Road, the writers were forced to reach for truly bad stuff.

Yeah, the jist of it is that the movie couldn’t possibly live up to the insane fan expectations — and it didn’t. That’s the criticism in a nutshell.

But I did like how the voice-over pointed out that in addition to being entertaining on its own, this movie had to set up  Captain America: Civil War, Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and who knows how many other follow-ups…

Why Bill Murray Finally Agreed to a ‘Ghostbusters’ Redux

busters01Just about everyone was floored by the news that Bill Murray had agreed to appear in the so-called “all-female” Ghostbusters reboot after so many decades of refusing to associate himself with any of the long-mooted attempts at making a third film in the franchise.

Well, newsflash folks: Murray has not only agreed to make a cameo in the new flick — he has already shot his role (as a ghost debunker). So there’s no turning back now.

Vulture asked Murray why he did it, and he replied:

“I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really… It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].”

“He slimed me.”

GAME OF THRONES Blooper Reel

I know, April 12 and the return of GAME OF THRONES feels so far away, but we can make it! Just think of this endless winter as you having moved to Winterfell (or, for those of you in the Boston metro area, beyond The Wall).

To help pass the time until season five, take a look at these bloopers from season fourm coiurtesy of HBO….

Yeah, I know, it’s not the same, but at least it’s something. And admit it: You missed Joffrey.*

*No, you didn’t. Neither did I. No one misses that little shit.

‘Guardians of thr Galaxy’ – The Honest Trailer

Even though the folks at Screen Junkies admit, “We’re really reaching here, this was a fun movie,”  this Honest Trailer does a pretty good job making fun of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, he year’s top-grossing movie.

Sure, most of the jabs rely on the relative obscurity of the characters, but it’s still fun!

“I am Groot!”
