If you watched yesterday’s DOCTOR WHO Christmas special, you’re doubtless still recovering from all the feels, so why not take a look at this deleted scene, courtesy of our pals at BBC America. The clip is non-spoilery in terms of story if you haven’t seen the episode, however, the gag won’t quite make sense until you’ve seen it.
MINOR SPOILERISH COMMENT: Though typically charming, I can see why this scene was deleted (if, indeed, there was a reason beyond typical time constraints): It bankrupts the laugh line a few moments later when the Doctor (Matt Smith) tells Clara (Jenna Coleman) that her family cannot see his holographic clothes, so he appears naked to them!
DOCTOR WHO show-runner and lead writer Steven Moffat promises that our lingering questions about the 11th Doctor’s era will be answered in “The Time of the Doctor,” the final story for the Matt Smith Doctor, whom he created.
“The Time of the Doctor” airs in just a few hours here in the USA, at 9 p.m. ET on BBC America. Geronimo!
Everyone’s favorite clone warrior/nurse Strax (Dan Starkey) files his latest field report, this one detailing the human custom of Christmas.
Happy Christmas, everyone, and enjoy the DOCTOR WHO Christmas special tonight at 9 o’clock on BBC America!
Tomorrow is the big day: Matt Smith’s last adventure as the star of DOCTOR WHO. During tomorrow’s Christmas special, “The Time of the Doctor,” the 11th Doctor will cede the show to the 12th incarnation of the Time Lord, to be played by Peter Capaldi.
So, just in case you need a little more convincing, here are the big guns of the series — Smith, executive producer Steven Moffat, and co-star Jenna Coleman — with some hints of what to expect from the story, which just happens to be the 800th episode in the history of the series.
In this adorable exchange from Wednesday’s DOCTOR WHO Christmas special, “The Time of the Doctor,” the Doctor (Matt Smith) discovers that Clara (Jenna Coleman) is having some trouble cooking a turkey for Christmas dinner.
Too bad she can’t call on “Souffle Girl” for some cooking tips…
What would Christmas be without a visit from the Doctor? Well, it certainly wouldn’t feel like the most wonderful time of the year. Luckily, we don’t have to contemplate such a nightmare scenario, because the Doctor will be paying a visit to favorite planet for the holiday.
BBC America has finally confirmed an airtime for the DOCTOR WHO Christmas special, “The Time of the Doctor”: Dec. 25 at 9 p.m. ET.
TTotD will be Matt Smith’s final adventure as the 11th Doctor and introduce Peter Capaldi as the 12th incarnation of the venerable Time Lord.
It may not be his idea, but the 11th Doctor is going to spend his last Christmas in the one place he is never supposed to go — again. And he won’t be there alone, as this teaser reveals…
Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels and The Silence. Uh-oh! The Doctor (Matt Smith) acknowledged that he’s buried in Trenzalore, we haven’t seen how he dies there. Yet. Silence will fall — and that’s not all.
Happy Christmas, fans!
This is not our Doctor. Not our Matt Smith.
This sullen, withdrawn, fatigued Doctor is not the same man who cheerfully battled Daleks and rode a triceratops like a pony. This Doctor is grieving. This Doctor is pain, and he cannot heal himself. He is a man in crisis. He is a man in hiding. Since when does the Doctor hide?
The morose shift in personality is due to the loss of Amy — and Rory, but… Amy — in the last story, when the Weeping Angels sent them into the past to live themselves to death. Now the Doctor has given in to his pain and doesn’t want to want watch any more companions die — by violence or by simply outliving them. He hates endings. He’s literally hiding from his past in London’s past while nursing two broken hearts.
We were treated to one of the rarest of events here in the hollowed-out volcano stronghold of “Read at Joe’s” — a white Christmas! Yes, it’s not much (and the evidence was disappearing before my eyes), but it’s something.
It snowed very lightly late last night — so lightly that I could not capture an effective image of it — but I was glad to see that at least some of the snow survived the dawn.
Happy Christmas to all!
The 11th Doctor, Matt Smith, is never less than charming whenever he is interviewed about DOCTOR WHO, and this bit, from the show This Morning, is Matt at his best. I’m not sure any serving Doctor since Tom Baker has been a better ambassador for the show.
In addition to flogging next week’s Christmas Special, “The Snowmen,” Matt covers quite a bit of ground, including why he incorporated liberal amounts of Clouseau, Blackadder and Frank Spencer into the Doctor, his Mum, the fans (“I think people mistake craziness for enthusiasm”), his “TARDIS boots,” the new TARDIS interior (“space IKEA”), what’s written on that Type 40 plaque in the console room – and hints about the monster in one of the upcoming back eight episodes!
Definitely worth watching. Bonus: The presenters mention the 50th anniversary but do not ask Matt when he’s going to leave the role! Kudos!
