Full Trailer for DOCTOR WHO Series 10 Is Here!

We are now just one month away from the return of DOCTOR WHO. After more than a year off the air — not counting the Christmas special one-off, “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” — it’s been a long, lonely wait for a full season of episodes.

Now, at last, we have a full trailer for the 10th season of the revived series, with the tag line “A Time for Heroes.”

While I am not thrilled with the companion situation — Bill (Pearl Mackie) and Nardole (Matt Lucas) do not fill me with anticipation — the stories look like they could be interesting.

Wonder Where Wonder Woman Comes From?

The latest trailer for this summer’s hotly anticipated Wonder Woman claims to be the “official origin trailer,” but it only teases at Diana’s true secret origins. Instead, it gives us glimpses of her girlhood and the martial society of the Amazons on the island of Themyscira. It looks like we’ll have to wait until the film opens to see which of her several origin stories (if any) from the comic books  will be used.

The trailer itself, however, is another gem, full of action of and great visuals, and further amps up my hopes for a great movie. I really want this one to break the DC curse and be genuinely great, with no reservations. And how about this terrific new poster, depicting WW on a beach at dusk? Awesome!

The 12th Doctor Will Battle the First Cybermen in His Last Story

If he has to go, then he might as well go out in a blaze of glory, battling his favorite baddies.

I’m talking about Peter Capaldi, who is leaving the title role of DOCTOR WHO at the end of this, the 10th season of the revived series. A lifelong Whovian, Capaldi has long maintained that his favorite monsters were the Cybermen — specifically the original Cybermen, the ones that appeared in First Doctor William Hartnell‘s final story, “The Tenth Planet.” The Cybermen have reappeared many times over the ensuing 50+ years, but they never looked the same again.

The look of those cybernetic refugees from Mondas — Earth’s twin planet which was knocked out of orbit when our moon was formed — was dictated by the budget constraints of the 1966 serial, thus the silver jumpsuits and ski masks.

Diane, This Is What Dale Cooper Looks Like Now

Kyle MacLachlan reprises his role as FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, the 18-part continuation of the original series starting Sunday, May 21, at 9 p.m. on Showtime.

Okay, here’s where it gets complicated: The series debuts with a two-parter, followed by episodes three and four the following weekend. and then going to one-hour installments from then on. However, immediately following the May 21 premiere, Showtime Anytime and Showtime On Demand will offer parts three and four.

Well, I guess we shouldn’t expect just any old broadcast format from David Lynch…

Meet the Crew of ‘Alien: Covenant’

In Alien: Covenant, the colony ship Covenant is loaded with colonists on a mission to establish human colony on another planet. The crew of the ship is made up of couples, and to introduce fans to the main cast, Luke Scott, the son of director Ridley Scott, has made a short film dubbed Prologue: Last Supper.

This is not footage from the movie itself, but rather an original piece designed to show how the crew relate to each other — and a rare chance to see characters in an Alien film happy!

Don’t Worry About the New Doctor – Yet…

Everybody can just relax. Chibnall’s got this.

New DOCTOR WHO showrunner Chris Chibnall – whose work won’t be seen until after Steven Moffat‘s upcoming 10th series has run its course – has his own ideas about how to cast the next Doctor, and it has nothing whatsoerver to do with what former stars, fans or bookmakers want.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Chibnall said:

“We’ll cast the role in the traditional way: Write the script, then go and find the best person for that part in that script. You couldn’t go out and cast an abstract idea. The creative possibilities are endless, but I have a very clear sense of what we’re going to do, without even knowing who’s going to play the part.”

Translation: Chibnall isn’t going to cast someone and write to fit the actor; he’s going to create a character and then hire the right person to play that role.

I totally agree that he’s doing it the right way. The actor must suit the role, not vice-versa.

Peter Capaldi‘s third and final season as the 12th Doctor will end with this year’s Christmas Special, in which he will regenerate into the 13th Doctor.

X-23 Tears It Up in NSFW ‘Logan’ Trailer

The final Hugh Jackman Wolverine movie, Logan, opens today, and from all accounts, this is going to be the Wolverine movie we’ve all been waiting for: one packed with action, bloodshed and Professor X dropping F-bombs.

Who cares if the movie’s 2024 setting makes the already mishmashed X-Men movie timeline look like ground hamburger? Just accept that it’s two years after X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Professor X is suddenly 90, Logan is.. really old and there’s a little girl named Laura (aka X-23) with adamantium claws causing havoc while on the run from Hellfire Club exile Donald Pierce, who has grafted cybernetic parts to himself and runs a group of rogues called the Ravagers.

Based on the story “Old Man Logan” from Wolvie’s comic book series, Logan is directed by James Mangold, who also did 2013’s The Wolverine, but it is not set in the same timeline as that previous film. Got that? Actually, it doesn’t matter to the casual movie fan.

‘Alien Covenant’ Trailer: Meet the Monsters

 The release of the latest movie in the Alien franchise is creeping up on us fast, so we should be hearing/seeing a lot more about Alien: Covenant in the coming weeks. In that spirit, 20th Century Fox has released a second trailer for the flick — and this one is packed with action and Xenomorphs!

Yes, this is technically a sequel to the uneven Prometheus, but the trailer makes it feel more like another part of the “real” alien series, with an emphasis on eggs, facehuggers and the xenomorphs rather than the mysterious Engineers.

In fact, the trailer makes only vague references to Prometheus, in the form of that horseshoe spacecraft and Walter, the synthetic person who looks exactly like David (both played, of course, by Michael Fassbender).

‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Trailer Introduces Star-Lord’s Father!

After focusing on Star-Lord’s relationship with his late mother in the first film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 tackles Peter Quill’s missing father — who turns out to be Ego, played by screen legend Kurt Russell!

There’s a lot more to the story of Peter’s long-lost Dad than just who he is; readers of Marvel Comics know that when it comes to Ego the Living Planet, what he is poses a much… uh, bigger question.

Director James Gunn decided to change the identity of Star-Lord’s father from the comics, and hopefully we’ll see just why when the movie opens, but it’s worth noting that Russell‘s costume makes him look just like J’son, the emperor of Spartax, who was Peter’s dad in the comics. Hmmmm…
