Wonder Woman Draws (Steals) a Special Sword

WONDER WOMAN (2017) Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

Director Patty JenkinsWonder Woman is one of the most anticipated movies of the upcoming summer season, so every sliver of information about it is worth examining.

In this photo, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, the future Wonder Woman, Diana of Themyscira (Gal Gadot), is stealing a magical Amazonian sword known as the “god killer,” which she intends to take to Man’s World. The theft angers her mother, Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen).

Jenkins described the import of the scene to the magazine: “This is her moment. She’s heard all the terrible things about man’s land. But she’s also heard that mankind is in need and under duress. This is her great moment to make the decision to be the one to try and save them.”

Let’s look at the pulse-pounding trailers for the action flick (both spliced together):

TWIN PEAKS Revival: There Will Be Donuts

Showtime still has not set a premiere date for its revival of TWIN PEAKS, but it did release a little teaser that assures fans that the new miniseries will  maintain the spirit of the original.

Check out series co-creator and director David Lynch reprising his role as FBI Regional Bureau Chief Gordon Cole…

Why is the entire promo just Lynch eating a donut?

Because f*ck you — that’s why!

It’s David Lynch and it’s TWIN PEAKS and it’s pure genius, so deal with it.

The Secret Origin of Keyser Soze Revealed!

keyser_soze_1041582_1044Remember The Usual Suspects, with its villainous mastermind, the mysterious international criminal, Keyser Soze? Of course you do; the film featured one of the most spectacular twist endings in movie history!

Ever wanted to know  more about how Keyser Soze got his start than was revealed in the movie?

Too bad! Red 5 Comics is going to fill in the story anyway, in a comic book series called Keyser Soze: Scorched Earth, which is billed as “the official origin” of the character.

Set nine years before 1995’s The Usual Suspects, the comic series will tell the story of how the young(er) Keyser Soze carved out his drug empire in the bad old days of President Ronald Reagan‘s War on Drugs.

There is no word on whether the comic has the rights to Kevin Spacey‘s likeness.

The comic will debut on Free Comic Book Day, which is on May 6, 2017.

What’s This? ‘Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas’ Soundtrack

sandyclaws-27135On this night before Christmas, I turn attention to one of my favorite albums of seasonal music: the soundtrack from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.,

Yes, you read that correctly. Featuring a bounty of great songs written by Danny Elfman, the onetime frontman of Oingo Boingo, this album is an unexpected holiday gem. Each and every one of the songs was written in a minor key, but they still manage to run a gamut of emotions, from joy to longing, sinister to funtastic.

The 1993 stop-motion animated film was directed by Henry Selick and produced by Burton, who conceived the story in 1982 while working at the studios of Walt Disney Feature Animation. It tells the story of Jack Skellington (voiced by Chris Sarandon and sung by Elfman), the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town — the source of the Oct. 31 holiday. One day Jack wanders into Christmas Town and becomes so fascinated by the candy-colored holiday that he decides to usurp Dec. 25 from Santa Claus.

Back in Action! Keanu Reeves in ‘John Wick: Chapter 2’

john-wick-chapter-2-movie-wideOne of the most pleasant surprises of 2014 was John Wick — a little-heralded action shoot ’em up that did nothing less than redefine the genre with flashy gunplay and stylish visuals. Even the rapid-fire editing helped propel the story along rather than confusing audiences.

Keanu Reeves was absolutely perfect as the polished killer of few words but many bullets. Wick was known as much for his flashy wardrobe as his prowess at killing — and, wow, could he kill!

The plot of the original movie was almost a cookie-cutter revenge scenario — almost! The clever conceit of the movie is precisely why Wick went on his rampage! It would be cruel of me to reveal the secret, so I’ll just beg you to watch the original and love it as much as I do.

He’s the ballistic first trailer for the sequel:

What We Know About ‘Blade Runner 2049’

blade-runner-2049-trailer1After hearing virtually nothing about Blade Runner 2049 after the casting of Ryan Gosling was announced and Harrison Ford‘s participation confirmed, Warner Bros has suddenly dropped a bunch of teaser material about the sequel to director Ridley Scott‘s 1982 classic, Blade Runner.

First of all, we have several photographs courtesy of Entertainment Weekly depicting the principle characters, including Gosling as Officer K, Ford as Deckard and Ana de Armas as a mystery character. Scott is also seen conferring with Ford.

Tom Cruise’s ‘The Mummy’ Trailer Looks Like Garbage!

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for its new version of The Mummy, this one starring Tom Cruise and designed as the second part of its revitalized “Universal Monsters” universe, and I have to say it looks much too much like yet another Mission: Impossible flick.

In it, we see Tom and Annabelle Wallis thrown around the interior of a crashing plane. The sequence seems to go on forever in this trailer, so it’s bound to be a major set piece in the movie, taking up tons of screen time. And we already know how it ends: with Tom’s character dying. Bravo. So that will be a huge waste of the movie’s running time.
