Luke Cage, the third series from the partnership of Netflix and Marvel Television is quickly filling its cast — led by Mike Colter as Luke “Power Man” Cage — with the addition of Mahershala Ali as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, one of Power Man’s first villains in the Marvel Comics series.
The live-action version of Cottonmouth is described as “a Harlem nightclub owner, [who] will become an unexpected foe in Luke’s life when Stokes’ criminal activities threaten Luke’s world.”
Ali joins the previously announced supporting cast that includes:
Simone Missick as Misty Knight, a detective in the New York Police Department who investigates Luke. In the comics, she has a bionic arm, so it will be interesting to see if the show tells the story of how she acquires it, or if she already has it when the series begins.
Frank Whaley as Rafael Scarfe, Misty’s “hard-nosed MYPD detective” partner.
Theo Rossi (SONS OF ANARCHY) as Shades, “a relentless, menacing, smooth and manipulative, street-smart criminal with ties to Cage’s past.”
Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, a role she originated on Daredevil and reprised in Jessica Jones. Word is “her blossoming friendship with [Cage] will have a major impact on both characters’ lives.”
Luke Cage will release 13 episodes on Netflix in 2016.
