Michelle Gomez has been confirmed as returning to DOCTOR WHO as the female incarnation of the Master — in fact, she’s due to start filming in Cardiff, Wales, within the week for the ninth series’ opening two-parter.
“The Magician’s Apprentice” has been known as the premiere’s title since the last Christmas Special, but now the name of part two has been revealed: “The Witch’s Familiar.”
Things have been a little beige since I left Missy behind, so I’m delighted to be putting my Lippie back on. I’m positively dying to see the Doctor again!
Executive producer and writer of the story Steven Moffat said:
Everybody hide — Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect.
Gomez is just the latest cast member returning for the premiere, joining Jemma Redgrave as UNIT’s Kate Stewart, Kelly Hunter (“The Stolen Earth”), Claire Higgins (“The Night of the Doctor”) and SHERLOCK veteran Jaye Griffiths.
DOCTOR WHO returns to BBC America this fall.
