WALKING DEAD Poised for a Bloodbath

ricks5As THE WALKING DEAD shambles toward its fifth-season premiere in October, star Andrew Lincoln wants us to know that no one should be considered safe; death could be waiting for any of the major characters:

It is an inevitable part of this show. It’s one of the great things, I think, that you have real jeopardy for favorite characters. It won’t be without its share of death this season.

New, Longer ‘Interstellar’ Trailer

A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar was shown at Comic-Con International: San Diego, and it has finally been made available to those of us who couldn’t make the trip to the left coast.

I still find this trailer frustrating because it stops at the space journey, and to me that’s the interesting part!

Rangers Reveal Goalie Masks for the New Season

Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist of my beloved New York Rangers released images of the mask he will wear for the 2014-’15 season, and it looks like a stripped-down, simplified version of previous masks. It doesn’t seem as “busy” to me. King Henrik’s mask has his usual stylized crown on the front, with the Statue of Liberty on each side. As a hidden message, the three crowns on the mask (his, and the twin Lady Libertys) pay homage to the three crowns on the Swedish flag, (the “Tre Kronor”).

The mask was designed and painted by Dave Gunnarsson, who does a lot of work for NHL goalies.

camtalbotBackup goaltender Cam Talbot also has a new design ny Ginnarsson, this one paying homage to the New York-based comedy classic Ghostbusters.

What Can Break Cap’s Shield?

shieldedThis publicity image of a prop from Avengers: Age of Ultron is very unsettling: What could be powerful enough to break Captain America’s shield?

The legendary shield was created by out of a strange alloy of Vibranium, a rare metal found only in the African country of Wakanda — but more importantly, it’s virtually indestructible. So how does the weapon get cracked like this in the movie?

Ant-Man Cast (Finally) Confirmed

ant-panelThe cast and their roles in the upcoming Marvel Studios production Ant-Man were confirmed at Comic-Con International: San Diego over the weekend, and the surprise to me was the character Evangeline Lilly will be playing: Hope Pym, the daughter of scientist Hank Pym.

We’ve known for a long time that Paul Rudd will be playing the titular hero, and his civilian identity will be Scott Lang, the petty criminal who steals a size-changing suit from the brilliant inventor Dr. Henry Pym, to be played by Michael Douglas. Corey Stoll – currently visible as the hero on FX in Guillermo Del Toro’s THE STRAIN – will play the villainous Darren Cross, aka Yellowjacket.

Pedal-to-the-Metal ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Trailer

Director George Miller unveiled a new, long trailer for 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road at Comic-Con International: San Diego, and it pretty much buries the needle on driving mayhem:

The clip seems to feature more CGI than I’d like, but it still looks pretty terrific. I do wonder why producers are being so coy about showing Max’s face; are they hoping people will assume Mel Gibson is still starring? To me, new star Tom Hardy has such a generic face that I’d worry about viewers losing Max in the crowd and so I’d want to showcase his mug as much as possible.
