‘Cap’ & ‘X-Men’ Movies Go Retro Cool With Posters

Check out these awesomely amazing retro-flavored posters for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

I think the poster campaigns for both of these films have been outstanding (especially for Winter Soldier) — and Marvel Studios may just have saved the best Cap poster for last. This design fairly screams “1970s thriller!” (which is what directors Anthony and Joe Russo have said they were going for with this sequel) or even “vintage James Bond!”

It’s funny to see Robert Redford on there, because he’s well-known for his work in films like Three Days of the Condor, and the typeface evokes his classic The Sting. And oh, look, it’s Samuel L. Jackson, who tried to update a ’70s icon with Shaft a few years back. Still, I must admit I’m still partial to the first teaser poster, which says “HERO” in an epic way that I don’t think any other superhero movie poster has.

The X-Men poster is also evocative, but less specific. It just feels like it’s from another age. Maybe because it’s artwork and not a doctored photo. I like the idea of giving Jennifer Lawrence such prominence — and major kudos to the studio for not giving us Wolverine looking back at us over his shoulder… Zzzzzzzz.

Oh, yeah? Sez you!
