First Looks: ‘Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’

Here’s a peek at some of the main characters in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the sequel to 2005’s Sin City, based on the comics by Frank Miller. A full trailer for the summer thriller is expected to be released later today.

Jessica Alba returns as Nancy Callahan, and co-director Miller says Alba has grown as an actress since the first film. Co-director Robert Rodriguez says Nancy also has has grown, from the “little girl” of the first film to an “avenging angel” in the sequel.

Also back is Mickey Rourke as unstoppable killing machine Marv. The first newcomer we see is Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Johnny, a gambler who beat the wrong guys in poker!

SinCity2posterIn addition to Rourke, Alba and Gordon-Levitt, the cast includes: Bruce Willis as Hartigan, Rosario Dawson as Gail, Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy. Eva Green as Ava Lord, Dennis Haysbert as Manute, Christopher Meloni as Mort, Jeremy Piven as Bob, Stacy Keach as Wallenquist, Ray Liotta as Joey, Juno Temple as Sally, Julia Garner as Marcy, Josh Brolin as Dwight, and Jamie Chung taking over from Devon Aoki as Miho.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For weaves together two of Frank Miller’s classic stories with new tales in which the town’s most hard boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more repulsive inhabitants. In Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to the story in Sin City and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face.

Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For, based on Miller’s comic miniseries of the same name, opens Aug. 22.
