At last, Rocket Raccoon of the Guardians of the Galaxy speaks!
In this short little introduction to the character, Rocket says a few lines, and Bradley Cooper is shown delivering his voice performance. Check it out.
So… that happened.
I don’t know about you, but I am… underwhelmed by the voice Cooper is using here. I cannot believe that’s what director James Gunn decided to go with after supposedly searching for months for the perfect voice actor. Rocket sounds like plain ol’ Bradley Cooper. Hell, if Gunn wanted to go with a regular guy’s voice, he would have been much better off with Nathan Fillion (who was Gunn’s leading man in Slither.) Personally, I would have gone with John C. Reilly, who is seen in this clip as Rhomann Dey, a member of the Nova Corps, describing Rocket. He has a distinctive voice.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I believe Cooper’s voice is bad, it’s just not anything special. And, given that Rocket is believed to be “the heart” of the movie, one would expect his voice to be somewhat unique. Still, let’s wait and see hear how it works in the context of the entire film.
