While we all know that Paul Rudd was recently cast as the title character in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, the story of Marvel Comics’ shrinking superhero; but we didn’t know which version of the character — genius scientist and inventor Dr. Henry Pym or good-hearted thief Scott Lang — was going to be the focus of the movie.
Now we do: Rudd will portray the Lang incarnation of Ant-Man. But he won’t be the only Ant-Man in the film — Marvel Studios has confirmed that Michael Douglas will also star in the movie, playing Hank Pym!
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige issued this statement on the casting:
“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”
Douglas, who has already won an Oscar and an Emmy, added a Golden Globe on Sunday night for playing flamboyant showman Liberace in BEHIND THE CANDELABRA on HBO — so he probably won’t have a problem wearing spandex and an insect-inspired helmet!
Ant-Man is slated for release in 2015.
