Not sure how thrilled I am about this teaser trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to the surprise hit of 2011, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This seems to hint that the story will be something like a reimagining of 1973’s Battle for the Planet of the Apes — definitely not one of the better installments of the old series. http://youtu.be/h_9-3Fj3ZdI I do like the primative, rain-soaked look of this film, and the long, slow pullback from Caesar’s face (it actually takes 25 seconds) is full of tension. DotPotA is directed by Matt Reeves, who helmed 2010’s Let Me In, the competent but somewhat underwhelming remake of Let the Right One In, and 2008’s Cloverfield. The official synopsis describes the movie like this:
A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens July 11, 2014.
