Peter Capaldi: Gallifreyan Spring Chicken!

At age 55, Peter Capaldi was the oldest actor cast* in the lead role on DOCTOR WHO (until John Hurt, 73, became the War Doctor), but Capaldi insists that he’s actually too young for the role — a declaration backed up by show-runner Steven Moffat.

*Yes, I know William Hartnell also assumed the role at age 55, but this is neither here nor there.

    • I am really looking forward to seeing him. I really like hearing his voice — that Scottish accent is cool — so it probably can’t be that bad. And Moffat will still be there, so that’s a plus in my book. I’m hoping he and Moffat go in a much more mature direction with the character.

      • Yes. It was interesting how, in the last episode, John Hurt said, “Why do you have to talk like children? Are you so ashamed or being grown-up?” (Or something along those lines.) Anyway, it kind of seemed like they were making way for a more mature Doctor, like you’re saying. I hope so. I’ve loved David Tennant and Matt Smith, but I grew up with “old man” Doctors in the original series. It would be nice to see that type of persona again.
