Here is a new trailer for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug:
I’m not entirely sold on Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug. Why go to the trouble of hiring Cumberbatch if his dulcet tones are going to be electronically manipulated and distorted? It’s barely recognizable as Cumberbatch. If you’re not a fanboy or “Cumber-bitch,” would you honestly recognize that dragon’s voice as his?
TH:TDOS is in theaters Dec. 13.
No less an authority than Samuel L. Jackson, Col. Nick Fury himself, told The Wall Street Journal that Elizabeth Olsen has joined the cast of Avengers: Age of Ultron — and since she has been rumored to be up for the role of the Scarlet Witch, that’s probably who she’s playing. Unless she’s the Wasp (there was some talk that she could play the winsome one).
Here’s what Jackson said to the newspaper:
“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year. I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”
Okay, so he didn’t say the words “as the Scarlet Witch” — WSJ added the material in brackets. But her casting (in some role) sounds pretty solid to me. Besides, even if she wasn’t officially hired, maybe Sam talking about it will make it so. After all, do you want to tell Mr. Samuel L. Jackson that Olsen won’t be in the film?
I think Olsen will make a fine addition to the ensemble cast. Check out Martha Marcy May Marlene to see what a fine actress she is.
