BBC Makes Series 8 Officially Official

steemomazzaWe fans already knew as much, thanks to Steven Moffat and Matt Smith, but the BBC finally formally announced that there will be an eighth series of DOCTOR WHO along with a 2013 Christmas Special.

The Beeb made the announcement on its website:

“We’re delighted to confirm a new series of Doctor Who has been commissioned and the show’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, has revealed he’s already plotting a brand new run of adventures for the Doctor.”

It’s also good news that Moffat will be back in the driver’s seat — and that something special is planned for the Christmas episode:

“Given that this year’s Christmas Special will be rounding off such a spectacular year we’re sure it will kick off the Doctor’s next half century in style!  But that’s not all. Big plans are being put in place that will well and truly celebrate the Doctor’s half-centenary.  Make sure you check back for some exciting announcements!”

Hmmm… could the Christmas Special see a gathering of all the incarnations of the Doctor? Christmas with the 11 Doctors? It would be just like Moffat to divert attention with the 50th anniversary story and then blindside us with the story we thought we were being denied…

  1. Oh for frak sake! We’re heading into season 34 not 8! Sorry but unless you’re traveling back in time to Pertwee’s episodes, we’re nowhere near season 8! This may seem trivial but imo calling Doctor Who NuWho, Rebooted Who is the most UN Whovian thing anyone can do. Who has been continued, not re-done, rebooted, re-imagined. It’s the same show, the same Doctor, ever changing yes, but as always continuing, moving on be it back, forward or sideways in time.

    • I hear ya, and I agree about what season it is. For a while I was including the original season numbering in my blog entries (See for an example), but I caved and decided to go with the “official” numbering from BBC Wales.

Hey, at least everyone is acknowledging that the show’s history goes back 50 years, not just eight!

Oh, yeah? Sez you!
