Oh, of course he can! All the Doctor has to do is… er, um… Hey, wait a minnit!
“Save the Daleks”? WTH?
Save the mad pepperpots he’s been battling since his first incarnation? That’s crazy! Anyone who thinks that ought to be locked up in an… asylum…. Yes, I see where the episode title comes from now…
Here’s what the BBC says on the subject:
“Kidnapped by his oldest foe, the Doctor is forced on an impossible mission – to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter… the Asylum. A planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of their kind, the Doctor and the Ponds must find an escape route. But with Amy and Rory’s relationship in meltdown, and an army of mad Daleks closing in, it is up to the Doctor to save their lives, as well as the Pond’s marriage.”
So someone is in the Asylum that terrifies the Daleks. At this point, it can only be Davros, right? Maybe he still wants to use his “human factor” Daleks to take over, and the rest of Dalek civilization is afraid he’s up for “parole” or something.
With “Save the Daleks!” ringing in his ears, the Doctor is forced to accept the mission. I wonder what sort of concession he wrings from the pepperpots…
What I find interesting about this premise is that the guilt from the Time War is doubtless going to weigh heavily on the Doctor’s mind here. He’s been carrying that load since his ninth incarnation. I also expect plenty of references to “Genesis of the Daleks,” the Fourth Doctor adventure considered by many to be the opening salvo in the Time War.
What threat could bring together every sort of Dalek ever — from the mutants powered by static electricity that the First Doctor encountered on Skaro, to the Special Weapons Dalek to the New Paradigm. What’s going on here? Are the Movellans back?
This was a brilliant clip and teaser statement to release, because they lead to so much speculation! But there’s not long to wait now!
