First Official Shot of the Doctor and His New Companion!

Here it is, the first image released by the BBC depicting the Doctor and his new companion, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. (You’ll recall this image from filming, but that was taken by a spy.) I like it. I like it a lot!

The 11th Doctor (Matt Smith) is clearly wearing a new costume: He has a never-before-seen bowtie and a long, dark coat and a vest, or what he will no doubt call a waistcoat. I like it, but I still prefer his tweedy jacket. I’m still hoping this is just a temporary outfit for the Christmas Special (aka episode six), in which Jenna-Louise is introduced.

The mysterious new companion still has no official name, but “Clara” is still the rumor. Her costume is rather unremarkable, which is a surprise, since her creator, show-runner Steven Moffat, calls her “different” and promises she will “shock” viewers. I guess her outfit is a deliberate contrast to that.

Series 7 will debut sometime in the fall with the first of six new episode that will include the Christmas Special. Eight more episodes will air in early 2013.

Oh, yeah? Sez you!
