As if it weren’t already torture waiting for this year’s DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special, “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe,” the BBC has released an official prequel starring the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith, and it is pretty terrific!
In just over a minute and a half, producer Steven Moffat manages to really hook the viewer with suspense, mystery and emotion. This is not just a clip or a teaser, it’s the actual prequel.
Smith’s second Xmas special as the 11th Doctor airs on Dec. 25 (natch). Have a look at the prequel now:
As you can see, the scene is no slap-dash affair: It looks and sounds like a real episode, and plunges the viewer into the heart of an intense scene. The Doctor is facing imminent death, and he calls his friend Amy – but not for help so as to wish her a happy Christmas. Isn’t that just like the Doctor, always thinking of others first. He wishes Amelia a merry Christmas, and then takes his finger off the button.
And while the prequel ends with quite a bang, nobody really believes that’s the end of our favorite Time Lord. Obviously, the Doctor has some sort of gambit planned — why else was he pulling out hoses? But what is going on? Where/when is the Doctor? Whose spaceship is that? And the biggest, most important question of all: IS IT XMAS YET??????
